It’s my favorite guy’s birthday today and I’m not going to make everyone suffer through hearing all the reasons I love him, but there are a LOT. One of the biggest though, is that he’s always been my number one fan. Always. He believes in me and cheers me on continually, no matter how much I doubt myself. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t even have this business - and I mean that when I say it. He’s encouraged me to face my fears and put myself out there and do hard things, and that is one of the greatest gifts you can ever give your significant other - just believing in them. And actually one last thing before I try to stop being mushy for the general public who probably doesn’t want to hear it - this guy has faced a lot of really heavy, bad stuff this last year. We’ve had some serious trials come our way, things that we felt would make us collapse under the pressure. But watching the person you’ve built a family with get up everyday to face things they shouldn’t have to face because their family is relying on them is something that will, if nothing else, teach you both what love really is. It’s a choice day in and day out, and it’s even greater when it’s a hard choice. Love is a verb and it’s one that this man lives out daily. Happy birthday my love!
One decade ago he welcomed me into my 20s and we celebrated our first birthday/Valentine’s Day extravaganza (our birthdays are on either side of Valentine’s Day - though honestly we never come close to an extravaganza 😂). Yesterday he welcomed me into my 30s, and today we celebrate us and the family we’ve created, and tomorrow we celebrate him and the wonderful human that I found a decade ago. Every year these three days feel like we have to cram too much good into too short a time (and don’t forget Adelaide’s birthday was a few days ago!), but I love that we have this little holiday sandwich every year - and I may or may not still believe our birthdays were a legitimate sign we were meant to be together. 😂 I hope you all enjoy this day celebrating love - whether it’s with a significant other, or your children, or your friends and family. Love is something to celebrate for sure, and though romance is wonderful, it’s that lasting, faithful, self sacrificing love you find in all kinds of relationships in life that is the real deal. Happy day of love, friends! 💕
Ohhhhh friends!! I have the most exciting thing to tell you about! For a little while now @lavender.fig, @rebeccasablephotography, @kentavenuephotography and I have been working on a project together, something we think is so desperately needed and that we hope you love as much as we do - we’ve been working to launch a new photographic journal called Haven, a space dedicated to celebrating the heart of home and family, through beautiful photos and the stories that go along with them. We’re not done yet, but this week we are really diving into our Instagram community and are going to begin sharing work from other talented photographers (YOU!!!) that is shared under our hashtag, #thehavenway. There’s so much more to come and this is just the humble (and exciting) beginning, but we hope you’ll join us over at @the.haven.way and help us build this new community and get ready for the many things that are still to come! So share your work, tag your friends who would be interested (photographers of course but also families who want to hear real and relatable stories and love inspiring images!), and keep your eyes open for the launch of our website and so many other good things over the coming months! 💕
I bet you’ll never guess who is dying for some outside playtime these days. 😬 We try to get energy out by sliding down the steps in sleeping bags and running circles around the house and having dance parties (and by we I mean the kids 😂) but if you’ve got more suggestions for indoor physical activities with restless, wild boys, I’m all ears!
Adelaide had a friend over to stay the night on her birthday, and partway through the evening as all three of my children literally ran circles around the couch screaming at the top of their lungs, this friend proclaimed confidently (while shrinking into the couch to hide), “I’m glad I don’t have siblings.” 🤣 And meanwhile, mine pray daily for more. 🙈 All this to say, I’m just really glad that there are so many ways to do family, and that these people we were given to be stuck with through thick and thin were meant for us. Big family or small, one child or ten, we’re all doing our best to be a team and make a life together, and this team is the one we’re supposed to have, and that’s about the only thing that really counts.
I’m calling it - I’m ready for winter to be over. Who’s with me? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I mean if we could just get some snow that stuck around long enough to sled and play in I’d take a few more weeks but snowless cold isn’t fun at all and I’m anxiously awaiting sunshine, a little warmth, and taking pictures outside again. Til that actually happens, I’ll just be throwing in the occasional warm weather picture to tide myself over. 😂🥶
